The procession of purification encircles the Church, the bishop sprinkling the walls and returns

CONSECRATION OF THE ALTAR

B makes the sign of the cross with Chrism upon the five crosses carved upon the altar-stone

And anoints the cross of the tabernacle or the altar cross with Chrism and says the prayer

O GOD WHOSE WISDOM MIGHTILY AND SWEETLY ORDERETH ALL THINGS….

***B WHEREFORE DO WE +CONSECRATE AND HALLOW + THIS ALTAR

to the glory of God, to the perfection of humanity, and in honour of His glorious Martyr, the holy St Alban…..(e g ) In the Name of the + Father and of The + Son and of the Holy + Ghost. C Amen

Procession of Consecration moves to the cross in the south-east corner singing…..

The Bishop anoints this cross with Chrism and says

O THOU WHOSE BEAUTY shines

(Procession moves to the cross in the south-west corner. The B anoints this cross with Chrism and says

O THOU GREAT MASTER-BUILDER who hast laid the foundations of the universe in order

Procession moves to the cross in the west singing. B anoints this cross with Chrism and says

O GOD, THE KING OF ANGELS, RULER OF ALL THE HOSTS OF HEAVEN, we praise Thee…

Procession moves to the cross in the north-west corner singing….The B anoints the cross saying

B: O CHRIST, THE LORD OF LOVE, WE LAY OUR HEARTS UPON THY SHRINE..

B. O GOD, THE ROCK OF AGES, THE STRENGTH OF ALL THEM THAT PUT THEIR TRUST IN

Procession enters the chancel singing the eight verse of the hymn. The celebration begins as usual

THE COLLECT

B O CHRIST, our divine Master, we thank You who will accept and ever hallow this temple

Which we have now dedicated to Thy holy Name. Incense of praise and thanksgiving shall rise within its wall that the lives of those who worship here may be truly in accordance with Thy most holy will who livest and reignest with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God through all ages of ages.
