SACRAMENTAL*** HEALING*** SERVICE***145

Somebody reads:

"Hear the words of the Apostle James: Is any sick among you? Let him call for the "elders" (priests) of the Church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Name of the Lord. And the prayers of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Pray for one another that ye may be healed. The fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much

INVOCATION is a first step. From the beginning of time is our eternal Self, "God" invocating our

personal self. Our personal self is in the beginning as sleeping, not aware of the constant invocation

which comes from our divine Self. But slowly, after many incarnations, does our personal self begin to

respond and seek after the divine Self or "invoke it". The personal self can invoke the eternal Self in

many ways, foremost by being pure, good-hearted, good-thinking, good-willing. It can invoke in the

holy names of God and that way become more and more fitting instrument, channel for the forces of the

eternal Self which do foremost act in the heavens . We INVOKE even by symbolic actions:

P: IN THE NAME OF GOD (make with right hand a circular movement symbolising The Endless)

THE FATHER " a point, the middle point of the cross

THE SON or WORD " a vertical line

THE HOLY GHOST ("the Divine Mother") a horizontal line

And we invoke the holy archangel RAPHAEL

THE LORD WHO IS WITHIN HEAVEN IN US WILL SEND that HEALING ANGEL

to minister unto these Godīs children here present that they may be restored to health

of mind and body, through Christ the innermost Lord within all C: Amen

PRAY ALWAYS did Jesus say ( Luke 18 1) Be always instruments, channels. Our prayers are often

childish words; asking God to change and become more giving. That is primitive human thinking.

" Lord have mercy " is a common such childish prayer. If prayer use words they ought to affirm in

contemplating ways , reminding us that God is ever perfect mercy. One tradition is to start with

ASPERGES,

(That is to unite with and contemplate that God, our eternal SELF IS PURITY AND DOES PURIFY)

P: (moving an aspergill ) GOD IN ALL IS PURITY and helps us to purify hearts+ altar+, temple+

CONFITEOR self-knowledge, self-analysis The incarnated personal self contemplates. All may say

Repenting, I confess that often I forget that You, o God, are born in all and crucified in all who suffer

But you have said that you forgive sins, you are the mystery, vicarious atonement. You are the sacrificial

Lamb of God and suffering for all. You take on You our sins as far as that can benefit the real task

(As Isaiah said (53) ("He was wounded for our transgressions)

ABSOLUTION (from our divine Self (through P = its instrument within and without)

P: God in you will bless, preserve and sanctify all. In Love God looks on all and God is gracious. The Lord forgives + you. In the name of God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost receive the sacrament of forgiveness and the grace of the Holy Spirit

C Amen

V E N I C R E A T O R (traditional invocation before the unction)

(all sing:)

1/ Invoke the Father, God of Hosts

Invoke the Spirit, Holy Ghost

Invoke the Word, the Christ in all

as heavens does us always call

2/ Christ says all are of heaven child

Godīs Spirit is our Mother mild

She brought us from the endless Fount

She lifts us to the heavenly Mount (*) * ( Hebr gospel

3/ She is as wind from highest heaven

With Spirits hidden gifts, the seven

She heals with mercy and Godīs Word

By saints and angels always heard

4/ Gods River is eternal art

It flows through body mind and heart

It makes us all " in Spirit poor"

Gods Kingdom waits for those so pure

5/ Gods Fire tongues will come down

Give saints from heaven Spirit crown

And open in us Spirit eye

We see then God in man and sky

6/ Take pilgrims-staff, disciple- way

Teach "lamb and wolf" to serve each day

Find Water, Wisdom, gnosis scriptures

Agape-love in Godīs green pastures

7/ Return from time and pilgrim-path

You find eternal immense hearth:

The Trinity within your soul.

Beyond horizons is the Goal

Amen

P ( standing at the place of unction) ( Congregation may sit)

P Let us contemplate that God, our innermost nature, is the eternal and perfect healer

O Lord, who hast given unto man bodily health and vigour wherewith to serve Thee.,

We contemplate that You will free Thy servants from their sickness (or imperfections or weakness)

so far as may be expedient for them, and by the might of Thy + blessing to restore unto them full

Health, both outwardly in their bodies and inwardly in their souls; through the Lord, Christ in us.

C: Amen

( The people are seated. Those who desire to be anointed come to the Priest one by one and kneel for

anointing. Or they may be seated or stand near P. P says now over each one

P: In the Name which is above every name, in the power of the +Father and of the +Son and of the Holy +Ghost, we EXORCISE all influences of imperfection, that thou mayest be rightly purified to receive this Sacrament of Holy Unction.

(Taking upon the right thumb some of the holy oil for the sick, the P anoints the person in the form of a

cross upon the forehead, saying

IN THE NAME OF OUR LORD CHRIST and invoking the help of the HOLY ARCHANGEL RAPHAEL WE ANOINT THEE WITH OIL, THAT THOU MAYEST GAIN REFRESHMENT

BOTH OF SOUL AND BODY

P proceeds to anoint, in the same manner as before but in silence, the centre at the top of the head,

the front of the throat and the nape of the neck. P does then place both hands upon the head of the

person with the definite intent to heal, saying

P: CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD, ( IN YOUR HEART AND IN ALL HEAVENS WITHIN ) POURS

DOWN HEALING POWERS UPON THEE, AND ENFOLDS THEE IN THE LIGHT OF LOVE

(If a bishop is conducting the service he may at this point touch the person with his crosier)

(When all who ask for the Sacrament of Holy Unction have been anointed

( the P cleanses hands and turn to the people and says

P: As with this visible oil your bodies are outwardly anointed, so will almighty God, our heavenly Self

grant of infinite goodness that your souls may be anointed inwardly with the Holy Ghost who is the Spirit of strength, relief and gladness. She will resplenish you with the spirit of Her wisdom and strengthen you with Her mighty power, that you may persevere in the way of holiness and ever serve

Her joyfully in the course that She hath appointed for you; through Christ our inner Lord. C Amen

(P turns to the altar or a vessel of the sacramental bread and says)

P: O God, who in the wonderful Sacament of the altar has left us a living memorial of thine eternal Sacrifice; you inspire us so to venerate the sacrred mystery of Thy Body and blood that we may ever perceive within ourselves the power of Thine indwelling life, and thus, by the glad pouring out of our lives in sacrifice, may know ourselvs to be one with Thee and through Thee with all that lives; who

livest and reignest with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God throughout all ages of ages. C Amen

(Those who have been anointed kneel at the chancel rail (if there is such one)

and the P adminsters Holy Communion to them saying to each

P: THE BODY OF OUR LORD CHRIST KEEP THEE IN THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF

THE LIFE ETERNAL

(When all have partaken, all may rise and a hymn may be sung here)

P Let ur pray

P We who have been refreshed with Thy heavenly gifts will contemplate the Lord and his grace

That it may be grafted inwardly in our hearts and may continually be made manifest in our lives;

Through Christ our Lord. C Amen

THE BENEDITION

P We commit you unto Godīs gracious Love and protection The Lord will + bless you

and keep you. The Lord will let his Face shine upon you and be gracious unto you.

The Lord lifts up the light of Countenance upon you and gives you peace, now and for evermore.

C Amen
